About labElephant
labElephant Foundation Incorporated is a 503(c)(3) charity registered in the State of Wisconsin, USA and with the Internal Revenue Service.
The mission of labElephant Foundation is to advance the conduct and education of science around the world by providing tools to promote scientific thinking and experimentation for free
or at very low cost to scientists and trainees working in an academic or educational environment. The tool offered for this purpose is the labElephant Knowledge Builder software,
which is made available to non-profit users via this website through a license agreement with labElephant Software LLC at a 60% discount.
Proceeds from license fees and donations go toward Foundation expenses. When such proceeds exceed those expenses, such surplus is donated to the Smithsonian Science Education Center
The labElephant Knowledge Builder software is a Microsoft Access database application initially developed by Robert A. Haworth PhD during his research career at the University of Wisconsin,
and is tailored to the specific needs of life science researchers. It is designed for the multi-user environment of the academic research laboratory, for laboratories that already have their
own folder on the departmental server, in a local area network (LAN, or intranet) environment. The application is composed of a front end database file that links to a back end database file,
and is free to use when both files reside on a single computer. When used with a LAN license, the back end of the application resides in the lab folder. The back end contains
data that organizes and displays the data in the lab folder, which is entered, viewed and shared by lab personnel running the front end application from their own computers.
